The fashion set was seen during Paris Fashion Week.

It's a good time to reflect on the year. We like to look back and catalog the books we read, the music we listen to, the movies we watch, and the wrap-ups made by various apps that keep track of these things for us. What do fashion's It items of 2022? say about our lives if what we wear is a reflection of who we are and how we feel.

It was another year of living in the organized chaos that has become our new and we had to juggle between working from home and in-person, as well as embracing nostalgic items from our youth while also looking for grown-up pieces that are fit for our fully-adult lives. We want to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that in order to mix comfort with the bold. We looked at the 19 items that made up the way we dressed.

Miuccia Prada's fashion collection of itty-bitty skirts and itty-bitty tops exposed long, taut stomachs.

When Mrs. Prada spoke, the world listened and the look was everywhere. Nicole Kidman wore it on the cover of Vanity Fair, sparking a high- fashion renaissance for herself. The show of the season was made possible by Paloma Elsesser, Emily Ratajkowski, and others. The collection was so popular that an account was created to keep track of it. On TikTok, guides of how to create the style at home began to go viral, all you need is a pair of scissors.

Jonathan Anderson's collections have a lot of weird themes. His explorations of half-deflated balloons became the hit of the season. He showed them on the heels of black pumps and boots, the weight of the wearer seemingly "squeezing" the air out of them, he stuck them underneath a bodycon dress, and he joked that they can look like breasts with a sheath. Emma Corrin, who favors the weird and avant-garde for their red carpet appearances, wore it to the awards ceremony. Luar was the American accessory fashion designer of the year.

Christopher John Rogers is one of the few designers who can establish a unique visual vocabulary solely through their use of color.

It was only a matter of time before a new It bag claimed the throne. The Ana bag is named after Luar's mother and several of his aunts. Its sleek structured shape recalls a portfolio that a 1980s working woman may have carried, but its circular handle injects it with a subtle sensuality and makes it easy to carry around.

The offerings were originally available in a simple range of black, white, brown, iridescent silver, and a blue and white "croc" style. Lopez was the American accessory designer of the year. Anne was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

You can always count on his clothes to liven it all up. Instantly recognizable on red carpets, in the pages of magazines, and even out on the streets, the ubiquity of his pieces is further proof that he is one of the industry's best.

During New York Fashion Week, oversized blazers were in high demand.

The oversized blazer isn't a new trend, but Kaia Gerber, and the rest of us can't get enough of the instant sophistication it brings. The oversized blazer is the new pair-with-everything piece, whether worn as part of a suit, or thrown over jeans or sweatpants. It's possible to see you again in the future.
A$AP Rocky is wearing a shirt with Y/Project's take on Gaultier's famous print while out with his girlfriend, RiRi.

After Jean Paul Gaultier stepped down from his own label in early 2020, guest designers started presenting their versions of Gaultier's couture collections. Glenn Martens from Y/Project was chosen for the spring of 2022. The collection was great, but not what we wanted. The Y/Project fall 2022, presented a week before, had a major Gaultier-ism, the "body" print from his spring 1996 "Cyberbaba" collection, which was turned into anatomically correct layers of bodycon tops and dresses. They seemed to say, just throw on your Y/Project and go, and you too can have a perfect body. Prada used a white tank top as a base for their large-than-life outerwear and mixed-media skirts.

The first look of Prada's fall 2022, a white tank top with a triangle logo at the chest, was worn with a skirt pieced from three different fabrics and Mary Janes. The simplest of garments were merged into Mrs. Prada's crooked femininity. You could wear the Hanes version of the tank for six dollars, but there is no fun in that. The product description on the website states that pneumatic garments acquire new importance and value. It is correct.

Adidas sneakers are the fashion shoe of the decade. Stan Smiths became the non-statement statement shoe for fashion insiders at the beginning of the 2010s. Adidas has been reaching out to the fashion crowd more explicitly. The recent collaboration with Gucci is likely to become even more collectible after the departure of the designer. The collaboration between Adidas and the British label Wales Bonner was launched in January 2020 and is still at the top of everyone's most wanted list. Didn't see a drop this year? Spring is just around the corner.

One of the most versatile items of the year was the tailored vest.

The tailored vest emerged as a must-have this summer, with women of all ages wearing them with everything from matching trousers to jorts. This was one of the few democratic trends this year, where the look was more important than the brand, but the Frankie Shop's many versions were popular.
A pigeon clutch by J.W. Anderson is the most important accessory for Carrie Bradshaw.

Jonathan Anderson said the word "weird" 19 times while previewing the collection. How weird was his fall 2022? The models are holding animals. They were life-size pigeon clutches, and they had wings that were big enough for keys, credit cards, and even lip balm. It's weird and genius. One of the few things in this chaotic year that made sense was the fact that Carrie Bradshaw carried a pigeon clutch. The big-pant trend is always showcased by Chlo Sevigny.

The rumors of the return of skinny jeans have been greatly exaggerated. If the leg is large, the style can be anything you want, from baggy cargo pants to flat-front skater jeans. Real heads know that big top/big pants is where it is and this isn't just about being a "little shirt/big pants" person. It is possible to make art of it both with your personal style and at The Row.

The 20th-century American designer was looked to by the designer. The clothes that were created for the working woman were pragmatic and not too crazy. Her book What Shall I Wear? which was re-published this year with a foreword from Burch, is full of fashion advice, including the evergreen "if the shoe hurts, give it away." The dress was named after the designer because of the bold color blocking and mid-century silhouette. It's the perfect dress for hot summer days in the city, and it didn't take long before the actress was photographed by the photographers wearing it.

After meeting as students at Central Saint Martins, Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena decided to start their own label. Their very first collection, part of their joint master's thesis while still on school, featured a skirt made from upcycled pleats from Bulgaria. The style captured their folkloric-meets-sporty aesthetic, and since then, the skirt has become one of those IYKYK items, appearing on everyone from Madonna to Bad Bunny. This year, Chopova Lowena reached a fevered It-girl pitch, as they were spotted wearing full looks from the brand over and over again, and their distinctive prints were also seen on Charli XCX and Willow Smith. Do you need more evidence? A clip of a skirt being packaged for a customer has been viewed over 30,000 times.

The cowboy boot trend has nothing to do with country or western and everything to do with the trends of the decade. They were an essential part of festival wear, with tattered jorts or mini denim skirts, or alternatively, the best way to ground a babydoll dress. The cowboy boot has become an everyday shoe thanks to designers tweaking the style to suit their own tastes. For something more legit, look at Isabel Marant's wide-shaft, two-tone version. If you want to rock a boot but not a boot-kinda-Gal, then Y/Project's jeans with boot shaft detail at the hem would be perfect. I amiddy up!

It was the sixth hottest July since we started keeping track of such things, so it is not surprising that the fan became a style staple this summer. The month was sticky. At Pitti Uomo, guests could often be seen carrying foldable fans to beat the heat, and in Milan, guests were given bedazzled motorized versions. Naomi Campbell was at the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. Practical and stylish? We like to watch it.

It seems like we are never going back after getting used to the comfort of Birkenstocks. It was reported earlier this year that there was a shortage of the classic Boston clog and that it was selling out everywhere. Thanks to designer collaborations this year, there are plenty of Birks to choose from. Past collaborations with the likes of Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, and Jil Sander are still fresh.

There were two looks at Diesel that featured extra-wide belts. It's not a big deal if he meant them to be skirts or belts with nothing under them. The skirt/belt object became the subject of a furious discourse on TikTok, and eventually, the internet as a whole, which had people debating the point of such a garment. It's a perfect example of our online lives at the beginning of the 2020s.

Out of 81 looks, 48 came in a bright pink shade called Pink PP, which is a head-to-toe bright shade. It was a statement of the designer's personality, and it wasn't surprising that celebrities like Glenn Close, Sebastian Stan, and many others responded to it. Pink PP was sucked into the Barbiecore trend after images from the set of the upcoming Barbie movie hit the internet.

Every year, we have to find an item that is once thought to be a symbol of bad taste and make it the epitome of cool. The gas station sunglasses that were last cool with winter athletes of the 1980s were the winner. One trend were owning the real thing is part of its appeal is that many brands have their own versions. We can't help but wonder what other fashion discoveries await us this year.
